Named after the region's strikingly dark volcanic soil, the farm enjoys mountain streams, century-old shade trees and about as close to perfect coffee-growing conditions as you'll find. Owner Pedro Rodríguez Escribano came to Panama from Spain to raise cattle, until his daughter's future husband, a German coffee enthusiast, convinced him the real opportunity was in the ground beneath his herd.
